Liz Cooke

Liz had worked alone and invisibly for over 15 years, so she was really interested in switching up her practice and seeing how being in a building with others, and being visible in a window, affected her process. Her work evolves as she immerses herself in it, so she wasn’t sure exactly what she would be making whilst in the window, but as it was in May 2023 she knew she would be in the middle of creating her new flag hire sets.

Liz works in an intentional way, using the replication of designs many times as part of her meditation practice. There is an association of something being repeated many times with mechanical, automatic processes and she is interested in how her work disrupts that.

Liz’s practice aims at being zero-waste, remaking and adapting sets, taking time to make repairs, caring for work made. It is part of a wider conversation about sustainability and purpose.
